Black History Month 2015

In October, the UK will be acknowledged Black History Month (BHM) – a celebration of inspirational individuals and events that have taken place within Black Minority Ethnic (BME) communities.

In addition to raising awareness, our “Against Racism, Against Hatred” initiative held talks, produced literature and engaged with the general public to educate them on the heritage of black African Muslims within the UK and across the globe, looking at the huge impact of Islam on these communities, as well as the struggles of racism that many of them have faced.

Allah says in the Qur’an: “O mankind, indeed We have created you from male and female and made you peoples and tribes that you may know one another. Indeed, the most noble of you in the sight of Allāh is the most pious of you. Indeed, Allāh is Knowing and Acquainted.” [49:13]

This event at the Curtis auditorium in Newcastle University covered topics including Islam’s solution to racism, uniting against racism and being a black Muslim women.
