Help The Homeless 2017

“(The righteous are those) who feed the poor, the orphan and the captive, for the love of God, saying: ‘We feed you for the sake of God Alone; we seek from you neither reward nor thanks.'” – The Holy Quran, 76:8-9

According to the Guardian, there was a reported  26% increase in homeless people in four years in England (25 June 2014). In the North, homeless numbers have risen 8%  over the past three years.

The IDC North East Community Welfare team worked tirelessly throughout 2016 to expand on the existing monthly “Feed The Homeless” project. We are now distributing hot meals and drinks (cups of tea, coffee, hot chocolate and bottles of water) on a weekly basis in Newcastle City Centre to those sleeping rough. We have built a great rapport with those who come to see us at the Monument every week. Apart from the meals, the social aspect is also of great importance.

We aim to develop this project even further in 2017, with ultimately trying to help people get “off the streets” all together.
