IDC North East offers an introductory course for non-Muslims to learn more about Muslims. It’s a
great opportunity for professionals to learn, explore, challenge and ask any questions about Islam in a safe, non-judgmental place. The course provides delegates with the skills, confidence and
knowledge to challenge views about Islam and Muslims.
The goal is to break down barriers and stereotypes surrounding the Muslim community. We aim to
reach this goal through knowledge and understanding.
The topics covered are:
- Background to Muslims in the UK
- Islam and Culture
- Sources of Guidance
- Women in Islam
- Beliefs and Practices
- Muslim Sensitivities
- Jihaad and Extremism
- Observation of Muslim Prayer
- Question & Answer Session
The course is beneficial to teachers and support staff in schools, youth workers, staff workers in
the NHS, public sector staff, policy makers who promote equal opportunities and to anyone who works with Muslims as colleagues or beneficiaries.
